I don't know the answer to your question, but why not using CTRL-C?Ctrl-C interrupts the process. For a less drastic solution, use Ctrl-U, which just erases what you've typed on that line.

Hi listers !
I need the ESC key in bash session to clear the input line, i.e. the command. Could you tell me, how to set up the ~/.inputrc file ?

-- "I can say: 'Thank these bees for their honey as though they were kind people who have prepared it for you'; that is intelligible and describes how I should like you to conduct yourself. But I cannot say: 'Thank them because, look, how kind they are!'--since the next moment they may sting you. - Wittgenstein
