Hi,
I have an
Alcatel SpeedTouch 510 Ethernet modem that I use with Windows. I installed
Mandrake 9.1, hoping that it would recognize and configure my connection well,
since I was using an Ethernet modem and not a USB.
After installation,
the system starts up, and these two messages appear:
Bringing up
interface eth0....... OK Bringing up interface eth1....... OK
I
rejoiced, thinking that my Internet connection had been set up correctly, but
when I fired up Mozilla and tried to surf, it said something like "The
connection attempt was refused".
So I fired up drakconnect, let it
auto-detect my connection, and then clicked Next. It showed: "Your modem
isn't supported by the system. Take a look at http://www.linmodems.org"
This is the first time I've ever tried to use Linux with this modem, and
I am a vanilla newbie at Linux itself, so I'm at a loss at what to do. As I'm
not trying to connect with a USB, the Ethernet modem shouldn't be too hard to
get working. Also, I'm not convinced that the Alcatel SpeedTouch 510 Ethernet
modem is unsupported by Mandrake 9.1, as drakconnect says.
I'd really
appreciate it if anyone could help me out on this one.
Sincerely,
Ken.
