They can and especially python will, but you'll have a heck of a lot of laughs getting all the paths straightened out. Probably you're using an older rpm as most new ones have already been switched to python2.3.....try looking for a newer one or wait a while. IIRC the last rpm I've been waiting on was "sketch" but that's got it's act straightened out on the last download from rpmfind. What rpm is it?
