Perhaps you didn't know about them, as you are not subscribed to the lists? KDE is vastly different in the new release, as it has been split up into several packages, for cleaner code maintenance - nothing to do with Mandrake, of course. This means that you have to install some related packages, which may not be installed by default. Problems such as disappearing kde menus are cured by the upgrade package.
