Well I'm going to toot my own horn a little. Being a real NEWBIE I found this solution on my own when even the people on the Mozilla forums didn't have an answer. I feel pretty good about this.

There were some posts there that talked about using url 'about:config' in Firefox but that only hung my browser to where I had to kill it because it would not close. Using Firefox .8 on mandrake 9.2 and Thunderbird .5

Fixing the problem of not seeing your printers in Firefox and Thunderbird is as easy as adding the following line

user_pref("print.printer_list", "XX YYYY"); // list of printers, separated by spaces

where XX and YYYY are your printer names

to

user.js in the .phoenix/default/xxxxxxxx.sit directory
and to
perfs.js in the .thunderbird/default/xxxxxxxx.sit directory

where xxxxxxxx is a random generated name in every install

There is no need to change the printer command to kprinter --stdin as suggested by someone else. Although that worked, you then have to deal with two printer dialog boxes. I also did not need to install xprt as suggested by a couple of people.

Have fun and I hope this works for others.

Steve
