This is a known problem with Mdk 9.2
To fix it enter Ctl+Alt+F1 log in as your user. Enter
update-menus -v
Ctl+Alt+F7 to go back to X  Your menus will be fixed.

Now run MandrakeUpdate to install the updates which contain a permanent fix 
for this problem  (In the 'rpm' package update)
