I've been seeing some posts on the list lately about Xorg. If I understand it correctly, Xorg is a replacement for XFree86? Before taking the plunge and screwing my system up severely, I'd appreciate some information from someone who's successfully installed and configured it.

For instance, do I need to remove XFree86 from my system before installing Xorg? What tools are used to configure Xorg, the video card and the display? Are their any "quirks" to look out for during and after the install?

If anyone can provide some help on this, I'd certainly appreciate it!

There was a whole thread on the Expert list, subject:

"Currently running XF86 4.3, upgrade to Xorg????"

...started June 18th.

From the looks of it, the transition is easy, painless, and even an improvement
in terms of speed and image quality.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll start digging through the archives.

Have a good one Joe.
