This also points to an APIC problem (or an ACPI problem?). You should be able to boot in failsafe mode, giving you a text console. You will then need to use vi to edit /etc.lilo.conf. vi /etc/lilo.conf #hit 'i' to put you into insert mode #go to the main boot stanza and on the append line, inside the quotes, add NOAPIC NOLAPIC ACPI=OFF #you will have to experiment with each of these setting, turning them on and #off, one at at time, as Ron suggests, until you find which settings are right for your motherboard - it's hardware specific #when you've done that hit 'Esc' to put you into command mode #then type :wq #and you should be back at your console command.
