You can set it in /etc/sysconfig/desktop if you want to set it for 
everyone on the system. If the file isn't there, the default is kde. If 
the file is there, then DESKTOP controls the window manager, and 
DISPLAYMANAGER  controls the display manager. (the login screen.)
If you have autologin set up, and there is not window manager set for 
the user, then the value of DESKTOP is used.
