Dear friends: I just tried to install Nedit, a text editor available as an rpm. Installation failed because I was told that I needed "libXm.so.2" [root@adsl-77-232-230 sher]# rpm -Uvh nedit-5.0.2-4.i386.rpm error: failed dependencies: libXm.so.2 is needed by nedit-5.0.2-4 So I did a little research and found out that you needed to install lesstif, the Motif clone, in order to install Nedit. The latest Mandrake Cooker version "lesstif-0.89.4-1mdk RPM for i586", just like the original Red Hat version, includes this file: /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so.1 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so.1.0.2 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so.2 /usr/X11R6/lib/libXm.so.2.0.0 Please note that the fourth item is what we need. YET, when I install this latest version of lesstif, I find out that the file is in fact MISSING: libMagick.la libXIE.a libXm.so libfont.so.1.2 libMagick.so libXIE.so libXm.so.1 libforms.so libMagick.so.4 libXIE.so.6 libXm.so.1.0.2 libforms.so.0.88 libMagick.so.4.0.28 libXIE.so.6.0 libXmu.a libglut.so libMesaGL.so libXau.a libXmu.so libglut.so.3 libMesaGL.so.3 libXaw.a libXmu.so.6 libglut.so.3.7 Well, no wonder I got the error message above when I tried to install Nedit that the file was missing. It's supposed to be included with this version of lesstif, but it seems to have been left out. Would appreciate any ideas for this strange situation. Thanks so much.
