[newbie] startup

I am having a problem loading Linux. When it boots up it says

*An error occured during the file system check.

*Dropping you to a shell; the system will reboot when you

*leave the shell. Give root password for maintenance:

After I enter the password it goes to:

[root@localhost /root]:

How can I get to Linux?

I want to re-install Windows to get some work done. How can

I re-install Windows? It asks for a MS-DOS partition. How do

I do this?
