Hey Marty, I have a similar problem, Cd spins and all, but no sound. I have installed the driver, but during boot time it fails with “device busy” or something. My problem is that I have USB connected speakers, and I can’t find any drivers for this. Someone will have the answers..

Sorry I couldn’t help you, but I know how you feel… but the wait will be worth it… no more “Blue Screen of Death”  or skipping … oohh I hate that !!J

Subject: [newbie] help me !!!!

I am new to linux and running a dual boot with mandrake 7.0 and w98 , so far I love having a NON microsoft op system BUT I cant get my aureal 2500 sound to work yet 8( .. after finding out I didnt have the "make package" installed I am still having a problem even after installing the proper files.

The directions for the drivers <linux drivers from aureal> say to extract the tar. file into a dir < I made a new dir> then open console enter that dir then change to root and type "make install30"  would be my sound chip and I keep getting  "no rule to make target install" stop .

If I use "make install10" supposed to be for the 8810 chip <mine is 8830> it comes up with a diff set of commands something like >> cc-d__kernel__ -dmodule -dau8810
-0 -wall -pipe -m486 -i/user/src/linux/in
-02 0fomit-frame-pointer -c vortex.c -0 vortex.o
make[1] cc: command not found
make[1] cc:[vortex.o] error 127
make[1] leaving dir /home/marty/au88xx-1.0.5
make:*** [install10] error 2

I have been crying over this for 3 days now and sure would love any help I can get .
