I doubt that this will help you now but maybe for the next time,

I had a similar situation where my partition table became trash by my
own hand *-(

Although the windows data was still in place I could not even
access to the drive...it was unbootable....

The thing that saved me and resurrected the MS system without
damage was a stroke of pure luck...some weeks before I had been
playing with a FIPS disk..(just looking) and I booted to that and
looked at my partition table.....it suggested that I make a backup
restore file of the original table, so I did....I didn't use the FIPS
for any of it's other functions but I still had the disc.

Much later I dummied up the table...I could not gain entry
with FDISK on the Packard Bell restore disc or any other thing I
tried...remembering the restore file I made with FIPS, I booted to
that and ran restore...Magically the MS windows reappeared. from there
I was able to install the Linux as normal..for a moment I had thought
my new 13Gig disk would be a paperweight....

I did not ever use the other functions of FIPS but I will
always keep a copy with that partition table recovery file....just in
case....

Ps..if someone is interested? FIPS 2.0 is on just about every Linux
distribution and also the linux websites, it is simple to extract it
to a Floppy...for those bad days it will be insurance. although I
doubt the author intended it for this use.

Also the really neat Linux system on a Floppy that can be used for
recovery, from Toms root boot...I have it on hand and have tested it
but have not had to recover with it as of yet <grin>
