[newbie] German "Umlaute" with MC

Hello!

I've got the german "Umlaute" in Terminal unter Console and X. But if I
start MidnightCommander it looks like another keyboard-map! 
Haw can that be and be influenced ?
If I quit MC I got me Umlaute back.
strange thing .....
