Sorry, I misunderstood your question.  I didn't realize you just wanted to
temporarily disable the graphical logon.  My solution is more of a permanent
one.  If the xserver crashed, you can also try typing Ctrl-Alt-F1,F2,F3 to
get another console where you can log in and kill the xserver.
