Bryan,

My video card was not listed so I tried one that was similar in
configuration.

The color is greatly improved but my mouse stopped working.

I am going to try a different card.  

I tried to plug in my video cards specifications but X would not start.

Use "setup" as superuser.  Do your best at selecting the closes thing to
your monitor and test to see if it looks okay.  It doesn't
have to be perfect because you can do the fine-tuning in the next step.
Then open up "/etc/X11/XF86Config" in some editor.  Now go
to the "Monitor Section".  Change the two lines "HorizSync" & "VertRefresh"
to match your monitor's specifications.  Restart X.
