I tried this and got the following three lines:
localhost being added to access control list
kpanel: waiting for windowmanager
kpanel: ok, commencing initialization
Not the most informative ;-)
When I installed the "can you see me" test screen worked fine...

I couldn't see anything obviously wrong in XF86Config, although as a newbie
that probably doesn't count for much...
