Sorry about the cryptic note but after evaluating the problem further I have
concluded that it a hang-over I have retained from my windows days. I am
used to systems that offer one delete up front and it puts all data into the
trash can which you then have to purge at some time. I'll have to get used
to selecting move to trash instead of using delete, thanks.
