To verify wheather you have a winmodem or hardware modem logon as root. From
command line or in terminal enter the following command
# cat /proc/pci
In the devices listed if you see Communication controller
then you have a hardware modem and it will work in linux. If you do not have
it listed you have a winmodem.
The only place I know of that might be able to help you get a winmodem to
work is www.linmodem.org
and I only have second hand knowledge of them.
