just now while reading may mail logged on as an ordinary user i decided to open a new x session as root to use the 'update' feature as the icon for it seems to be missing on my user desktop, i figured that this would work as i was already connected to the interenet via a dial up connection and the second user was to be root. this didn't work, that is i successfully opened a new x session (ctrl-alt-f2, logon as root, type startx -- :2,)but couldn't access the internet, can any one tell me how i would do this, is it as complicated as having two machines share a connection? bascule
