No kidding...my Acrobat reader wouldnt even run from Mandrake 7.0...said some mess 
about "can't load libx16 or somthin'....I just downloadeda patch from this place for 
GhostScript, for reading encoded PDF's...havent tried it yet but you can give it a 
shot;
