Title: Um... wheres my kde?
Hi,

I have been messing with trying to get kde or gnome (?) up and running, and out of windows manager for awhile, but no one has been able to help me, so I decided to join the mailing list. I have enclosed a reply from some one else's post I found in the archives. This seems to be my solution, but being so new to Linux, I'm not quite sure how to "go to /etc and edit inittab". So obvoiusly the most detail that you can respond with would be much appreciated.

Intel Celeron 500
64MB RAM
Dual boot  Win 98/Mandrake 7.0

Thanks in advance,

Joe

Sounds familiar, althought I am running 7.1.  This fixed my problem: log on
as root or su, go to /etc and edit inittab.  You will see: id:3:initdefault
Change it to
id:5:initdefault .  The next time you boot the system it will bring up kde.
