Hi everybody, I noticed that a number of people are having problems getting the streaming video and audio working with Realplayer and Linux. Some MIME associations must be manually entered. If you would like a Realplayer7 installation included with .png (icons), navigate to http://www.real.com. Download the Unix/Linux version of RealPlayer7. The exact file name is: rp7_linuxc6_i386_cs1.bin It's a larger file but I prefer it to the rpm ---------------------------------------------------- Installation of rp7_linuxc6_i386_cs1.bin Step 1. Log in as root Step 2. Type in: chmod u+x rp7_linuxc6_i386_cs1.bin Press the <ENTER> key Step 3. Type in: ./rp7_linuxc6_i386_cs1.bin Press the <ENTER> key The installation will prompt you for the location. I selected /usr/loca/Realplayer7 Sit back and let the rest of installation finish. The installation, will prompt you for your email address, state/province, and ZIP code or postal code. Q1. Can I change the path another location? A1. Yes you can. Steps on adding the MIME entries to Netscape are as follows: A) Select Edit-->Properties B) Select Navigator-->Applications C) Click on the New button Enter the following: Description: RealMedia File MIMEType: application/vnd.rn-realmedia Suffixes: .rm Application: /usr/local/Realplayer7/realplayer %s Add %s after adding realplay i.e. realplay %s allows you to have the streaming video and audio.
