The amount of memory really depends on what guest OS you are running and what
you want to do in that guest OS. For example, I could run Windows 2000 at a
bearable pace on my Pentium II 350 with 192 Mb of RAM. I gave the Win2K
virtual machine half my RAM -- 96Mb. I have since upgraded my RAM to 256Mb,
and I find that I can do things like run near-full-screen ASF format movies
when I give Win2K 128Mb. I remember reading a good review of VMware
performance in The Duke of URL (www.thedukeofurl.org). Look it up there.
A tip: Things are always faster in full-screen mode. In Linux you can switch
to the virtual machine by hitting CTRL-ALT-F8 (as opposed to CTRL-ALT-F7,
which is your normal X-server).
