Have you tried setting the correct driver in the network settings of 
Linuxconf? The funniest thing happens to me. I have set the correct driver 
and have done everything else I am supposed to do to set up my SMC EZ Card 
10/100, but at bootup it always says FAILED when it tried to load the module. 
Despite this, I can still connect to my cable Internet network (@Home) using 
dhcpcd or dhclient. Even the lights at the back of the card work! Perhaps you 
should try connecting to the Internet anyway, and assume that your card works 
despite what your startup messages say.
