[newbie] Distorted sound in LM72

hello:

I just installed Linux Mandrake 7.2 on one of my friends computer, and I just
ran in to a
problem with the soundcard: Soundblaster PCI128.
The sound is distorted, My friend is a DJ so there is no chance he can live
with
that, so how do I fix that?
