Check your inetd.conf file. Also, do you have a hosts.allow and a
hosts.deny file? The problem may reside there...
Watch out when you open up those ftp and telnet ports, they are vulnerable.

I'm a new member of a list, and also some new in that of linux.
Mi problem is the following:
I download the linux-mandrake version 7.2, I installed, and everything it's
ok. I can connect to other machine in my network, and I can make a ftp and
telnet to other.
But, when somebody try to connect to my machine(with linux-mandrake version
7.2, running) I got the following error:
(with telnet)
>telnet 200.10.164.155
Connecting To 200.10.164.155...Could not open a connection to host: Connect
failed
(with ftp)
>ftp 200.10.164.155
ftp: connect :Connection refused
What can I do?!!

Soy nuevo en la lista, y tambien algo nuevo en linux.
Mi problema es el siguiente:
Yo acabo de bajar el linux-mandrake version 7.2, lo instale y todo perfecto,
puedo conectarme a cualquier maquina de mi red y todo eso(hacer telnet y ftp
a otros servidores con unix y nt).
Pero cuando alguien intenta hacer un ftp o un telnet a mi maquina(con el
recien instalado linux-mandrake) obtengo el siguiente mensaje:
>telnet 200.10.164.155

>ftp 200.10.164.155
ftp: connect :Connection refused
Alguien me puede oriental sobre que debo leerme o que debo hacer para poder
arreglar esto y que todo el mundo pueda hacer telnet y ftp a mi maquina.
