'Bout the only suggestion I have left for KDE2 'irregularities' is
to update to KDE 2.1 using Chris Molnar's rpms. Latest are 20001229 &
some 20010101

While there are some new features, IMO, these updates are really
bug fixes for the most part. For excellent update install instructions
