[newbie] Mysql

Hi
i have installed mysql and downloaded phpmyadmin(gui)
it works fine, till i put my own db in /var/lib/mysql
in phpmyadmin it lways give me the an error in a line that contains the 
following statement mysql_list_tables($db)!
