i don't know if anyone else mailed you re this  (or if this will go via the list but 
the NIC (if it is an ISA card at least)you have to use a DOS prog to set the IRQ 
/memory settings.. i'm not sure i understand it but the process is described in better 
detail here; http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Ethernet-HOWTO.html
i have a card ISA based on the same chipset and it  took a bit of playing around and i 
can't remember what i did but it works now. mail me off list if you need the dos 
program and can't find it..
