While Linux is certainly more secure than Windows, it is still not a 
*perfect* operating system, and the applications written for it are not 
perfect either. If you follow the various security announcements, you will 
see that security holes are found every week, in various packages which 
you may or may not have installed.

It is therefore wise to have a firewall -- preferably as a separate box, 
but if this is not possible, then run pmfirewall or bastille on your main 
system.

It sounds like you already have made sure that no unneeded services are 
running. This is good. My only other recommendation is that you 
consistently run Mandrake Update (once per week), to stay updated on any 
security patches.
