Sorry for the lack of clarity. The answer is yes; what
you described is exactly what happens. I remembered
that all was well this morning until I attempted to
run BZflag. It locked up and I did a
ctrl-alt-backspace to return to the desktop. After
that Chromium, Tuxracer, and BZflag all display the
described behavior when I attempt to run them. Booting
into run level 5 with GDM, or booting into run level 3
and then entering startx do not resolve this for me.
