Do you have a default gateway defined?

i.e linuxconf -> networks -> routing and gateways -> defaults -> default
gateway

Is your router's IP address in there and is it correct? Since you have
connectivity within your local network it sounds like your machine doesn't
know where to go for address outside your local IP range.
