Actually, the suit was filed not by Adobe but by a German law firm not directly
representing Adobe. Apparently under German law you file a copyright infringment suit
on behalf of a copyright holder and collect a fee for doing so, even if that suit was
filed without their knowledge or consent.

Hi,

The reason for the name change is a lawsuit: Adobe sued, saying that
Illustrator is a copyrighted name.... isn't that fscking pathetic? I
wonder if someone is going to copyright the word "Dictionary" if they
publish a dictionary, or "car" if they sell a car!!

Thanks,
David Charles
