I've worked on four different 8.1 installations that had this problem. All of them had the CD pointing to cdrom0, but /dev/cdrom was pointing to ../cdroms/cdrom0. Creating that folder and copying cdrom0 to it fixed it. Sorry it didn't work on yours.
