With many things, that's absolutely right. However, the kernel is an exception to that. Think about it. The kernel is loaded at boot time. It "IS" linux. To run the new kernel, you must reboot.
PS: Just a hint, before you do that, check /boot. You'll find borken links, and a missing initrd.img. You'll need to patch that up by hand before rebooting, or you'll crash & burn, and have to resort to rescue mode to get it fixed. Good Luck! ric Johnson, David wrote: > That's the beauty of Linux.
