i can drag the overall window ? - but not the small list of packages ?
hmm....i will give this a try....

yes i thought of that too and tried mirrors in austria, germany, france and
the sunsite mirror u spoke of.
the only package which i was able to download was the mozilla upgrade -
nothing else worked.

u r right - but i didnt do a mega-upgrade.
for example i tried to upgrade samba-client and server - and
mandrake-update came up with a bunch
of about 8 packages which the samba packages were depending on.
i also tried to select just single packages - which didnt work too....i
think the mandrake-update app
is simply not ready for use.......

hmm....i do have the adobe-helvetica and some other fonts - and i selected
them in my browser but still some of my fonts
are so "sharp edged" if u know what i mean...
(i remember this "KDE-Bug", i had to install a fonts package when i was
dealing with this problem in version 7.1 i think)
but i could try to disable anti-aliasing - didnt find this option yet -
where is it ?

mandrake-installer with no probs...
