*hahahaha* oh gosh.... don't even get us started on that one. i had to go back to 7.2 also because 8.1 will not even make it thru the install program on one of my computers. in all fairness i have to confess that it installed just fine on my second computer.
every once in a while i try to install it again (i have an extra partition where i'm trying to put it). so far 7 failures..... ugh..... i think Mandrake is entering the Micro$oft phase of their development. you know, the point where you have to upgrade your hardware everytime you upgrade your software. i love Mandrake, i really do.... but 8.1 is just a mess..... as to your question "what's gone wrong" -- i wish i knew. just stick with 7.2 -- i've decided not to try fixing what isn't broken. probably i will not mess with a new MDK until 9.1 comes out.
