What desktop are you using? KDE or Gnome maybe? I am running Gnome right now, and if you click on the toolbox on the taskbar which is Gnome configuration tool, choose themes from the selections you can choose a different one, or none at all. I don't know about any other desktops so sorry I cant be of more help.
