Hi. I just tried that here, and got (as user):
[darklord@darkforce darklord]$ less /etc/hosts
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.1 darkforce.com darkforce
192.168.0.2 darkforce2
192.168.0.3 darkforce3
/etc/hosts lines 1-5/5 (END)
I know it doesn't seem likely, but maybe your hosts file is empty? Is that
possible? Just a thought.
