can't help much, but i can say i have seen that error on 3 different linux installs, 2 of them the first cd was bad and i had to download it again, the last, one of the RAM chips was bad. windows didn't notice untill it had run several hours and then it crashed hard, linux noticed early in the install.
there is a memory check you can run, but i do not recall the command. you can also try installing with various RAM removed and see if it helps. sorry that isn't much help.
