And I said (or at least I think I did - could've been when the SMTP server was screwing me around) many newer camcorders give you the choice of Firewire and USB. So far, though, I haven't managed to get my Sony TRV740 to send to either Linux or Windows (the latter being with the drivers and viewer that came with the camera).
