This should only be a problem if the first lookup fails. At least this
is what I go by:

"Two other options, domain and search deal with default domains that are
tacked onto a hostname if BIND fails to resolve it with the first query.
The search option specifies a list of domain names to be tried. The list
items are separated by spaces or tabs.

If no search option is given, a default search list is constructed from
the local domain name by using the domain name itself, plus all parent
domains up to the root. The local domain name may be given using the
domain statement; if none is given, the resolver obtains it through the
getdomainname(2) system call."

If you were having the same problem in Windows, I would suspect the DSL
modem. But in this case, I suspect a problem with the network setup or
NIC driver. Are there any network related error messages in the logs?
Especialy messages about the network connection dropping and restarting?

You may need to add "MII_NOT_SUPPORTED=yes" to your
/etc/sysconfig/netwrok-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 file if the logs show the link
dropping and comming back up. If there are no errors in the log, then we
will have to look elseware.
