One thing that you can easily do with any program that is not part of 
Mandrake's distro, is get the source code tar balls, untar them where you 
wish, then configure, make, and run "checkinstall" instead of "make install" 
This will make an RPM for you. The rpm will show up in /usr/src/RPMS for you. 

Then using urpmi, you can install them, and they will be ready to be upgraded 
by urpmi if that time ever comes.

Checkinstall is found in an rpm by the same name. You may need to install it 
first.
