Hi Christophe, I had the some problem with my PCMCIA modem - it worked plug and play under 10.1, but did not get detected under 10.2 (2005 limited). As it turns out, it DOES work, it just doen't show any configuration setup under 10.2. Odd. Perhaps you should just go ahead and try to connect to the net like I did, and the modem came up fine and blazes as usual.
Anyway, I have and can recommend the Dynex Model #DX-M200 PCMCIA Modem Card from http://www.bestbuy.com . It is totally "plug and play" under most distro's I tested, including all the biggies like SuSE, Fedora, Mandrake, Knoppix, etc. It was about $75 US, and well worth the money. It configured easily under KPPP, and works just fine. It also has onboard power management features for laptops (what I assume you are using that needs a PCMCIA). There are some drivers and so on for Linux and "softmodems," but I think it is a big headache if you are not a full fledged hacker - I being a newbie didn't want to go down that road, and opted for the card modem - best decision I have made since deciding on my distro of choice, 2005 Limited. :-) In the considerable research that I did before selecting the Dynex modem card, I found out that ANY PCMCIA card that has onboard controllers should work with Linux - if the card is "controllerless" it will not work as it requires the Windows operating system & drivers to function.
