I think I've checked (or unchecked) the wrong box on my last install of
LE. When I log in I get black screen with text and have to log in as
user then run startx. Usually I have to do this twice because the first
time gives me a grey screen after attempting to load KDE. I have a
recollection of something about starting x during the install. How do I
now change this. I've had a bit of an amble around the menus, but first
time I changed something resulted in completely messing it up and
getting nothing workable (to me). I can keep logging as I am I suppose,
since I rarely reboot.
Thanks
Rosemary; When you get to your black screen with text, log in as root,
then run 'mcc' (yes, it even works in a console), and scroll down to the
'services' section.
When you get into the list of services (near the bottom of the list),
find the one called 'dm' and use your space bar to enable it. once
that's done, you can exit from MCC, and it will start the Desktop
Manager. While this won't bring you to the graphic log in screen at that
time, a quick reboot will solve the problem and you'll be greeted by the
graphic log in screen, once the reboot has completed.
Then, log in, stir, add heaps of common sense (for using Linux in the
first place!), sit back and Enjoy!
