As a new Mandriva user the first thing to learn about is urpmi.
Read the Twiki at http://mandriva.vmlinuz.ca/bin/view/Main/UsingUrpmi
and then go to http://easyurpmi.zarb.org  and set up sources for 'main', 
'contrib', 'updates', and 'plf'  and you can install your missing packages 
and lots more.
