I am now in a position to update my box and seek feedback as to the
components I'm thinking of to ensure Mandriva compatibility.
I am attempting to ensure that this new box goes the same five years
that my existing box has. { I know, we can all dream ]
Because of my incomplete knowledge of hardware matters I believe I know
enough to get right in the crap if I go it alone.
Here's what I'm looking at to get me started.
MOBO ??????????
ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 Motherboard nForce4 Ultra, 2GHz FSB, Dual DDR400,
PCI-E, SATA300 RAID
or
ABIT AN8 Motherboard nForce4, 2GHz FSB, Dual DDR400, PCI-E, SATA 150 RAID
CPU ????????
AMD Athlon 64 Model 3200+ SOC 939 ( Will update if required later
to the FX series ?? )
Graphic Card ?????????
ABIT ATI Radeon RX600 PRO 256MB DDR, DVI, VGA and TV Out interface, PCI
Express
Power Supply ~ Yet to be determined but think I will need to consider
something up to the 500watt range ?????
Hard drives (3 of them I hope), also to be determined, though I might
stick with Samsung as I have yet to have one of their's fall over.
The box itself is to be moderfied 'cause it is an earlier server box
with a great Tux logo on the front ~ purely sentimental of course.
Any thoughts as to compatibility problems anyone ?
And yes, If you reckon there are better alternatives for home server,
desktop setups, please let me know. ( Hoping to use this rig for my own
online server [ small time only ] via static IP and as a SOHO
workstation, completely Linux.
