# netbios name is the name you will see in "Network Neighbourhood", # but defaults to your hostname # netbios name = <name_of_this_server> You would use something like: netbios name = "cjt-design-server" The name does NOT have to match the hostname of the machine. If you wanted to, you could name this machine "Fred" and Samba would be happy, unless you turn on the option to try to resolve NetBIOS names via DNS nslookups. (If you turn it on, you then need to make sure you have DNS configured so the names can be looked up...)
