I am very pleased to be able to report that I now have my Linux box running again. I guess that the fault was with the router, for some very strange reason. I hooked up a spare drive for the installation of Kubuntu 5.04. The installation failed to find the LAN. I switched off the router for a few seconds and changed the LAN cable to another socket. Upon a second try at installation Kubuntu found the router. I completed the installation and was able to connect to www. Then rebooted the Mandrake drive, deleted the eth0 connection and then reconfigured it. BINGO!!! Now all I have to do is catch up on my email and forget about the XP box :-) Thanks again from Charles
